Allergy Testing Policy (protocol)
Rainbow Room International salons follow a Colour Responsibility Policy, for the safety and peace of mind of our clients and teams.
We use skin testing to check suitability for the colouring products and services we provide.
For new clients to our salons, we require you to attend the salon a minimum of 48 hours before your appointment for a complimentary skin allergy test. We will apply a small amount of 2 different types of colour to the area behind your ear or on the inside of your elbow. This will be done in the salon only takes a couple of minutes to apply, then you can leave the salon. This will be left on for 45 minutes then you will wipe off with a tissue. Do not wash off. Leave for 48 hours. If you experience any signs of irritation, reddening, swelling, inflammation or itching please contact us by phone or email with any queries.
If you develop any symptoms that make you feel unwell, please contact a medical professional immediately.
If you are a regular client and have not received a colour or skin test within a 6-month period, you will have to be re-skin tested. If there has been home colour, or any other brand than your usual colour applied to your hair since last salon visit you will have to be re-skin tested. This is in line with our manufacturer requirements and instructions with the NHBF/ Schwarzkopf AAT Traffic Light System.
If you have had a colour in any of our salons within a 6 month period, we will ask you a few questions about your hair history, and if there is no change, you will not be required to get a skin allergy test. If any questions are answered yes, you will be advised to get re skin tested before we can proceed with booking your colour appointment.
We understand that due to where you live, it may not be feasible to travel into one of our branches to have your skin test. If this is the case, please telephone your salon and ask reception who can talk you through the UK approved Colourstart system. This is a postal skin test that has been approved by all new legislations and MRHA approved, it has a cost of £15 including P&P. We must have this posted to you one week before your appointment to ensure you have the required 48 hour timeframe completed.
When you attend the salon, we will observe and check the area the allergy skin test was carried out and ask you to complete our NHBF Allergy Skin Testing Alert consultation form and we will also add these notes to your online profile on our systems.
